How do I convert my ACT score to an SAT score?+
Use the official ACT/SAT concordance tables published jointly by College Board and ACT. Each ACT composite score (9–36) maps to a single-point SAT equivalent and a small SAT range. For example, a 28 ACT concords to a 1310 SAT (range 1300–1320), and a 32 ACT concords to a 1430 SAT (range 1420–1440).
Is a 30 ACT equivalent to a 1370 SAT?+
Yes. On the official concordance, a 30 ACT composite corresponds to a 1370 SAT, with an official range of 1360–1380. Both scores sit near the 93rd percentile of test takers.
Are these conversion tables official?+
Yes. This page uses the 2018 ACT/SAT concordance tables produced jointly by College Board and ACT — the only official conversion between the two tests, and still current today. Colleges and the NCAA use these same tables.
Which test should I take, the SAT or the ACT?+
The concordance tells you how scores compare, but not which test suits you better. The ACT has a science section and a faster pace; the SAT allows more time per question and is fully digital and adaptive. The most reliable approach is to take a full-length practice test of each and compare your concorded scores.
Do colleges prefer the SAT or the ACT?+
No. Every US college that accepts test scores treats the SAT and ACT equally, using these concordance tables to compare applicants. Submit whichever test gives you the stronger concorded score.
Can I convert scores below a 9 ACT or 590 SAT?+
No. The official concordance only covers ACT composite scores 9–36 and SAT totals 590–1600. Below that range, College Board and ACT have not published a validated conversion.
