What's on the Digital PSAT

The digital PSAT/NMSQT uses the same section-adaptive format as the SAT with 98 total questions across two sections.

Reading & Writing

Questions

64

Minutes

  • 2 modules of 27 questions each
  • Craft & Structure, Information & Ideas, Standard English Conventions, Expression of Ideas
  • Short passages with one question each

Section-Adaptive Testing

Each section has two modules. Your performance on Module 1 determines whether Module 2 is easier, medium, or harder. Scoring well on Module 1 unlocks harder questions in Module 2, giving you access to the highest score ranges. The total test takes 134 minutes and is scored 320–1520 in 10-point increments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about PSAT prep on CramClub.

Is CramClub PSAT prep free?+
Diagnostic tests, unlimited practice questions, and 2 full-length practice tests per month are completely free. Upgrade to Student Pro ($9.99/mo) for unlimited tests, or Classroom ($4.99/student/mo) for AI tutoring, score predictions, and teacher tools.
How many PSAT practice tests does CramClub offer?+
CramClub offers 12 full-length digital PSAT/NMSQT practice tests, each with 98 questions across Reading & Writing and Math sections. Every test uses the same section-adaptive format as the real PSAT.
How is the PSAT scored?+
The PSAT/NMSQT is scored on a 320–1520 scale in 10-point increments. Each section (Reading & Writing and Math) is scored 160–760. Like the SAT, the PSAT uses section-adaptive testing where your Module 1 performance determines the difficulty of Module 2, which influences your score ceiling.
What's the difference between the PSAT and SAT?+
The PSAT and SAT share the same format, question types, and content domains. The key differences: the PSAT has fewer questions per module (27 RW vs. 33, 22 Math vs. 27), a slightly lower difficulty ceiling, and a score range of 320–1520 instead of 400–1600. The PSAT also serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
How does the PSAT qualify for National Merit?+
Your PSAT/NMSQT score determines your Selection Index, which is used to identify National Merit Semifinalists. Roughly the top 1% of scorers in each state advance as Semifinalists, who can then apply to become Finalists and compete for scholarship awards. Taking realistic practice tests is one of the best ways to maximize your score.
How long does the PSAT take?+
The PSAT/NMSQT takes 2 hours and 14 minutes (134 minutes) of testing time. Reading & Writing has 54 questions in 64 minutes across two modules of 27, and Math has 44 questions in 70 minutes across two modules of 22.
